Only once we managed a boat game, for red snapper off my home town, Takamatsu.
Sayuri caught a big mama, safely returned wishing to see her offsprings
one day.
- End
Late May, good tide and good weather didn't match up but I ventured out
anyhow, bringing (blatantly reluctant) Sayuri with me,
June is the month of monsoon rain, the lightly flooding river gives us one last opportunity to catch seabass before heat of the summer shuts down the game.
Other games
Kayaking for yellow tail I made 2 outings in January but without a bite.
Early summer squid did not show up, which was a big let down to all of
us (again). Offshore game for Mahi Mahi we couldn't squeeze in. Life's
too short we must fish hard(er)!!
It turned out a reasonably good day, both of us caught a solid Yellow fin
bream each - a close kin of black breams with thinner but taller body and
run faster.
Late July sees the start of true summer - intense heat and sunshine are
annoyance to many but not to me the devoted one.
What a great FF venue we have here in Hiroshima, and right at our doorsteps!!
9 outings for 23 catch, not a bad score for the short season. Farewell for now to my favourite quarries, Japanese ''Ghost of the flats''.
When the wind drops and the water mirror calm,
breams demand utmost finesse in everything you do.
Sight fishing at its best!!
Yes I did catch Seabass but many more breams this year. They were holding
tight, right in the white wash not downstream of it, snatching floating
foam minnow with such gusto!
Late April to May my focus was on Seabass - which does not provide consistent
entertainment. Breams by comparison are consistent hosts, so long as the
sky is blue you at least see them. If they eat fly is a different question
though.
So I made the year's first outing for bream on April 1 already. The incoming
water was warm at 21c, the breams were in a good mood, resulting in 3 catch
with the largest one at 46cm. Great start of the season.
Bream games
If anything positive about global warming, cherry blossoms were in full
bloom a week earlier this year. Breams too joined us our annual festivities
admiring Sakura's transient beauty.
