One of the most spectacular specimen. These big seabass feeds exclusively on big bait fish in 6-10inches, so the lure must be sized up to trigger their appetite. Bite is brutal, and explosive. Great finale to round off yet another fishy year.

December

The winter chill setting in with a rapid pace. I managed to land several more trophy fish before the ice cold rain drove all the bait fish out of the river.
End of Nov

I managed to catch one trophy fish on fly at last. The capture was so elating and worth a special emotion, after so many days and nights of trial and error.
A superb silver beauty too precious to kill. We tag and release 100% of them.

Sayuri joined me only for a night, successfully landing two lunker fish \ 85cm and 81cm
An 88cm lion of Ohta river. It is humbling to know such a great fish lives in our urban waterways.
Anglers life gets ruled by the lunar calendar. Waking up early to fish on the way to work receives its reward. Well, sometimes.
An 85cm handsome lunker caught on a big bait.
Obon holidays

Yet another visit to Kohchi in mid August. Sayuri managed an exceptional feat hooking up Sailfish. But the underpowered tackle couldn't stay on, losing the fish after splendid tailwalk twice.
We can even fish for Buri in the mouth of the same river. I only hooked up and lost one this season though.
November

The exciting yet troublesome time of the year is here. Targeting those lunker seabass we are forced to go on sleepless.
In a nearby river that has muddy floor there are big population of Kibire, a close kin of Black bream. I managed to nail a few and planning to study more next year.
As the water cools down sight fishing game for black bream tapers off. I was lucky to enjoy one last good day this late mid October this year.
End October

Fortunate to be able to fish for a trophy trout in a river running next to the office.
Our second day of Mahi Mahi fishing was cancelled due to the typhoon storm that washed the Pacific shore with a mighty force. A fisherman as flexible as I am still managed a consolation prize.
End of September

Schools of pilchards and other bait fish gets washed up in the Iwakuni bay, which brings the predators like this Buri, of 80cm.
As the water cools down, Ochi Ayu pattern (spawned out Ayu) is supposed to take place. However this year we didn't have a flash flood that fires up big seabass, resulting in rather too peaceful fishing scene like this.
僕にも良型が。老成すると雄は黒っぽく、雌は赤っぽくなるのだそうです。二枚とも元気にリリース成功!
October

Lack of autumn rain had an adverse effect on Ochi Ayu pattern we looked forward to so much. I managed a precious lunker of 83cm.
The unstable weather pattern of the summer was replaced by a endless succession of sunny autumn. Some good sessions at last.
Even more succulent table fare, Sawara.
End of August

This black bass I spotted and failed to tempt for three weekends, finally fell to my offering after many tricks this and that.
July

Our annual outing to Kouchi, for a serious wrestling with Mahimahi, aka dolphin fish.

September

Time to shift my effort to squid fishing in the rocky shores. A scenic fishing by the Kamagari channel.
