Earlier or later the season when the water gets low and clear, you can fish for real trophies here - the legendary Huchen, Danube Salmon if you are super lucky!?
We moved to the confluence with Oetztaler Ache in the evening. This river (as we visited in June) was roaring with silty snowmelt. The only fishable spot was immediate down stream of Horlachbach's mouth.

Swinging big muddler produced many good sized (30 -36cm) browies and a few odd rainbows.
A church in Umhausen.

The statue of saint and the thin red roof were giving out a mysterious solemnity in the sunny quiet afternoon.

What gives a best finishing touch to a perfect day on the water is a cold draft beer in a big glass.

We indulged ourselves in the beer and ice cream served at the cafe by the river. No, I cannot imagine a day any better than this!
30cm was the average here, and thanks to the lower elevation (therefore richer diet), there are many much bigger ones.

Fighting 40cm on in a current is indeed exciting. Use of thick tippet (3/4X) and landing net is a must when water is high.

The lower reaches are running through meadows and residential area. But beware, the current is quite strong and wading can be tricky at times.

In stronger current, again dry flies of large size produce best results. Swing the fly into the suspicious holes or even retrieve to tease them.

In the bright sunshine we saw many dark shadows of holding trout. Take a good aim, cast, and BANG! What a fun flyfishing!
As exciting as dry fly fishing is sight fishing with nymph - for big trout.

When fish are not willing to rise, you could still try some heavily weighted nymph. First cast it elsewhere and measure the line, then cast it to a few feet above where the fish is holding. Give out enough slack for the nymph to sink, and at the slightest movement of the fish, strike!

Tirol's largest waterfall, Stuibenfall, roars into the valley of Oetz. After dropping 150meters in seconds, she sprays herself up, casting a rainbow on a sunny day.

One of the purpose of our visit was to see this waterfall up close & personal.
It's a thrilling feeling to see a river changes its face at every one of the bends and turns.
